Jean Marc Poirier, Folk Art

Jean Marc Poirier

Jean Marc Poirier is an Acadian born on the Magdalen Islands, situated between PEI and Cape Breton on the Atlantic Ocean, and spent nearly a decade living in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia. After spending most of his life in the fishing industry, he began carving folk art – birds, animals, and his well-known "bag ladies." Jean Marc retired from carving in 2004 and relocated back to the Magdalen Islands (Iles de la Madeleine). Recently, however, he has started carving again.
