Peacock by Mary Martin

Title -  Peacock    Artist - Mary Martin

Description - An acrylic painting on a wood panel, framed, signed and dated 2006.  Peafowl are best known for the male's extravagant eye-spotted tail. A Japanese study of wild peafowl concluded that female peahens are indifferent towards the display of plumage. This finding suggests that the peacock's brilliantly colored and oversized tail and its piercing call evolved to intimidate rivals not to attract females. A screaming peacock charging at you can be unnerving.
